Newsletter/Bulletin D'information - Dec 2009

(English Text)

Good morning to you all.

Status update:

There have been two database updates since the 14th of November which have added approximately 500 new records and modified several hundred others. Most of these additions and modifications were based on obituary records from the Genealpha database of the Drouin Institute.

I would like to thank Roger Bourgeois for his input regarding the parents of Dominique Bourgeois (See http://www.histoire-de-bourgeois.net/getperson.php?personID=I9094&tree=Bourgeois). According to Stephen White of the “Centre d’Étude Acadienne”, Henriette Mélanson and Henriette Boudreau are, in fact the same person (see http://www.histoire-de-bourgeois.net/showmedia.php?mediaID=391&medialinkID=353 ). I have merged the information previous contained in two separate records to reflect this fact.

Potential problem:

I have identified a potential problem regarding information on living individuals being exposed inappropriately to non family members. The full name of individuals may be displayed if the individual record has no dates in the birth, christening, death or burial fields. All four fields must be empty for this problem to occur. I am presently working to correct this problem. Should you identify any circumstance where this occurs, please let me know.

Interesting fact:

As you may already know the next Congrès Mondial Acadien 2014 has been awarded to the upper St-John valley of north west New Brunswick and Maine and the Témiscouata region of Québec. This event will take place in two countries and involve one state and two provinces and will have the theme “Acadia Lands and Forests”.

In preparation for this event, I have begun the exercise of trying to document the Bourgeois’ of these areas starting with the Bourgeois’ of Edmundston, New-Brunswick. So far, I have been able show that most of the Bourgeois’ from this area are descendents of Lemuel Bourgeois (See http://www.histoire-de-bourgeois.net/getperson.php?personID=I39688&tree=Bourgeois ) originally from the Joggins Mines, Cumberland, Nova Scotia area. Unsubstantiated information has provided two potential clues as to his potential parents (see previous link). Any help in clarifying this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Other interesting fact:

The region of Edmundston, NB and and Madawaska, ME are part of the legendary Republic of Madawaska. For more information see:
