Newsletter–Bulletin d’information–Avril/April

Livres :

Ma lecture de ce mois-ci a été « Scattered to the wind, Dispersal and Wanderings of the Acadians, 1755-1809 », The Center for Louisiana Southwestern Lousiana, Carl.

Good day to you all

Status update:

There were four database updates since the 11th of March. Approximately, 990 individual records were added and 703 existing records were modified. The majority of the work focused on the Bourgeois in New Brunswick.

I also documented the New Brunswick Provincial Archives (RS141) Vital Statistics marriage records related to the Bourgeois through to the end of 1956. Only 4 years of data to be indexed to complete the marriage collection of New Brunswick Provincial Archives (RS141) Vital Statistics (PANB).

I also added a new "Obituary" menu item under the Media tab. This new digital collection will contain newspapers obituaries concerning Bourgeois’ and will complement the Tombstone collections.

You'll also find a new Mocavo.com search engine menu item under the Genealogy tab.

I would like to thank Charles E. Bourgeois (Cedar-Rest-Cemetery), Frank Catalli, Nancy Duffi, Laura Bourgeois, Gilbert Bourgeois et Noland Bourgeois (Obituaries) for their contributions and comments. As always, they are very much appreciated.

Books:

This month reading was "Scattered to the wind, Dispersal and Wanderings of the Acadians, 1755-1809", The Center for Louisiana Southwestern Lousiana, Carl. A. Brasseaux, 1991, ISBN: 0-94-984-70-9, the first of three books of this author that I read in the coming months.

This 82-page book, covers the period of the deportation and migration of the Acadians, that being from 1755 to 1809 when the last Acadian migration from Santo Domingo to Louisiana took place. It describes the events, places and conditions of life for all the places of exile and migration.

The places covered are: Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, Maryland and Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Nova Scotia post deportation, New Brunswick and Madawaska, Prince Edward Islands, England and the France, Santo Domingo, Martinique, the French Guyenne, the Falkland Islands, St. Pierre and Miquelon, and Louisiana.

This book is a good complement to Timothy Hébert “Acadian Atlas” I reviewed in the previous newsletter. It is of general interest to all Acadians and would be appreciated by all those who wish to know the extent of the trials and tribulations that our ancestors endured.

Links:

Mocaco.com is a first internet search engine that I have found that is dedicated to genealogy. This search engine works like the Google and Bing search engines with the exception that it identifies only documents found on genealogical sites, which has the advantage of eliminating any document not relate to genealogy. The sites indexed by this search engine are all free, public and often without sources and citations, you should therefore, be wary of your findings and double check them before considering them accurate. That being said this search engine will facilitate your genealogical research and will, if nothing else, give researcher leads that they may have not otherwise found.

In search of:

As mentioned earlier, I added a new obituaries collection to the Media tab. If you have or find any obituaries related to the Bourgeois family, I would interested in obtaining a copy for this digital collection. Send your copies to Marcbourgeois4@sympatico.ca for inclusion in the collection.

The Great Acadian Awakening (GAW):

My wife and I will be in Louisiana for the GAW, if you have any information concerning one or more Bourgeois family gathering taking place during the GAW I would like to know. We would like to meet as many Bourgeois cousins as possible during our visit.

The Coming Month:

This month, I will finish indexing the New Brunswick Vital Statistics from Government Records (RS141) for the period from 1956 to 1960 recommence my research on the Louisiana Bourgeois’.
